FEATURED ARTICLE Marshmallow
( Althea officinalis )-the herb, not the white puffy confection
roasted over a campfire-has been used for centuries as both a food and a
medicine. Its botanical name comes from the Greek word "altho," which means
"to cure." The Romans, Chinese, Egyptians, and Syrians used marshmallow as a
source of food, while the Arabs made poultices from its leaves and applied
this to the skin to reduce inflammation. The mucilage, or gummy secretion,
in the leaves and particularly the root is helpful for soothing sore
throats, chapped skin, and minor wounds.
But did you know it makes a great additive to just about any herbal smoke or
smoking blend? Especially a combination of marshmellow and Kava kava. That
mixture will have great effects. It is intoxicating and numbing at the same
time.
Professional herbalists may recommend marshmallow for the following health
problems based on its long history of use in traditional healing systems, as
well as results of laboratory and animal studies.
a.. Asthma
b.. Bronchitis
c.. Common cold/sore throat
d.. Cough
e.. Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative
colitis
f.. Stomach ulcers
g.. Weight loss aid (marshmallow swells with fluid and gives a sense of
fullness)
h.. Wound healing

KNOCK KNOCK...WHO'S THERE
If you have a
stoner joke we'd appreciate hearing from you. We would like to start a column
"ON THE LIGHTER SIDE" where we will include your jokes in our newsletter.
This months Stoner joke:
A stoner walks into an appliance store and asks the owner, "How much for that
TV set in the window?" The owner looks at the TV set, then looks at the stoner,
and says, "I don't sell stuff to pot heads." So the stoner tells the owner that
he'll quit toking and will come back the next week to buy the TV. A week later,
the stoner comes back and says, "I quit smoking pot. Now, how much for that TV
set in the window?" And the owner says, "I told you I don't sell to potheads!"
So the stoner leaves again. He comes back a week later and says, "How much for
that TV?" The owner says
, "I'm not going to tell you again, I don't sell to pot heads!!!"The stoner
looks back at the owner and says, "How can you tell I'm a pot head?" The owner
looks back and says, "Because that's a washing machine."
