Sinicuichi (Heimia salicifolia) also known as Sun Opener by the Aztecs and is still used by Mexican shamans as a trance-divination catalyst to this day. Heimia salicifolia is a perennial shrub with small narrow leaves and yellow flowers growing up to 1.5 meters. It has been identified as the Aztec hallucinogen "sinicuichi" because Sinicuichi is reported to be an auditory hallucinogen, however the effects of H. salicifolia are not well known.

There are Five quinolizidine alkaloids have been found in Heimia salicifolia. The major psychoactive alkaloid appears to be vertine (cryogenine) however not all the effects of these alkaloids are known, nor is it known what constituents are responsible for the reported occurrence of auditory.

Traditionally Heimia is an herbal smoke and used as a tea. It is a tested and proven euphoric, hallucinogenic , relaxant with anti-inflammatory properties. As a tea it is an inebriant. As a smoke the effects is General relaxation, acoustic hallucinations, and improvement of memory performance.

After ingesting or smoking Heimia sounds seem to become distorted from great distances. Many people have reported vivid recall of events many years in their past. Some even say they have recalled pre-natal events.

Other effects include pleasant drowsiness, skeletal muscle relaxation, slowing of heartbeat, dilation of coronary vessels, inhibition of acetylcholine, enhancement of epinephrine, slight reduction of blood pressure, cooling of body, mild intoxication, giddiness, darkening of vision, and a sense of well being, all this occurring within 15 - 20 minutes, with the effects gradually dissipating approximately 2 hours.

Currently Sinicuichi (Heimia salicifolia) is an unscheduled substance in the United States, meaning that it is completely legal to grow and sell. However,Louisiana State Act 159 makes the substance illegal to grow, cultivate, harvest or sell in that state.
