Amanita muscaria (Magic Mushrooms)
First of all, we don’t advocate the consumption of Amanita muscaria (Magic Mushrooms)! This article is provided for informational purposes only. Taking magic mushrooms is not without dangers. You should be aware of these dangers before you decide to go tripping on psilocybe mushrooms. Amanita muscaria or Magic Mushrooms are commonly classified as poisonous. However, this mushroom is not poisonous in the standard English sense of the term which when defined means a substance, a small part of which, if ingested, can cause serious injury, or even death. It is poisonou, in the sense that there are ways of ingesting it that may make you feel nauseous, or that might intoxicate. Amanita muscaria ratings tend to be based more on the cultural prejudices than of the scientific evidence. Amanita muscariais one of a large number of mushrooms that includes toxins that can affect you — in the case of muscaria by making you intoxicated — but whose toxins are water soluble, and can therefore be washed away through boiling. Once mushrooms of this type have been properly prepared for eating there is no longer anything toxic about them. Amanita muscaria is a member of the Amanitaceae family, a family of mushrooms that includes some of the most wonderful edibles, and some of the most deadly. Amanita muscaria’s red cap with white dots make it one of the most easily identified wild mushroom. Although most people don’t know its name, it is probably the most widely recognized mushroom among the general population, thanks to its popularity as depicted in the book “Alice in Wonderland” and as the typical mushroom of cartoons.
Amanita muscaria mushrooms are known for their psychoactive properties. Psychoactive Amanitas are mushrooms which contain the psychoactive chemicals ibotenic acid and muscimol. They have a long history of use in Asia and Northern Europe. They are best known for their distinctive appearance (bright reds and yellows with white spots).
(2) Make sure there is nothing going on in your head for the next 24 hours. No work, no school, no visiting of friends or family, no care for children or pets, absolutely nothing!

An Amanita muscaria trip lasts about 4-9 hours. They are capable of producing intense effects. Magic Mushrooms contain pilocin and pilocybin. These compounds are psychedelics. They will cause an effect similar to a trip on LSD. Loss of reality may be experienced and severe anxiety and paranoia can occur. You may experience a bad trip. The most important rule to prevent a voyage into hell is: START WITH A LOW DOSE, be in a good mood and think positive thoughts. However, don’t confuse psilocybe mushrooms with Amanita Mmuscaria (fly agaric). There are no psilocybin nor psilocyn in Fly Agaric and is not considered it a real magic mushroom.
The red with white dots Amanita Muscaria can cause a very unpleasant experience and health problems. Potential symptoms of Muscarine, an active alkaloid of Fly Agaric and other Amanita’s. Users report after their ingestion: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, and bronchospasm. With larger doses: Acrimation, incontinence, bracycardia, hypotension, and shock. Ibotanic acid, also an active substance of the Amanita’s may cause brain damage. Muscimole is another active alkaloid in Amanita muscaria. Its symptoms after oral intake are confusion, disorientation in situation and time perception, disturbance of visual function and hearing, muscle twitching, weariness, fatigue and sleep. Psychic performance and learning are diminished.
Jochem Gartz, a well-known mushroom specialist warns in his book ‘Magic Mushrooms Around the World’ that Amatoxins contained in the Amanita’s may be lethal! What’s more, Amanita’s are legal everywhere, even in the USA. Amanita’s are a powerful hallucinogen. Hallucinations (seeing objects that are not there at all) may be experienced only with a very large dose. Illusions and visuals are better words to describe the patterns superimposed on what you are looking at or the changing of items to more intense colors.
Today Amanita muscaria are very popular as they are the only genus of magic mushrooms allowed to be sold in a dried form. Amanita muscaria mushrooms are usually crushed into a powder and mixed with a few cups of water and boiled on a low flame for an hour. Drink it with or without the Amanita muscaria pieces on an empty stomach, drinking half the liquid and wait for an hour or two for the Amanita effects. If you want stronger Amanita effects drink the remainder of the water. All parts of the Amanita muscaria mushroom are psychoactive but for the best results use only the Amanita caps. Eating Amanita muscaria mushrooms is difficult for consumption because the Amanita effects are highly unpredictable. Amanita muscaria effects can be divine, hellish, or completely absent. Positive effects are often built up after taking Amanita mushrooms a couple of times. We recommend that Amanita muscaria mushrooms are taken only when you’re in a good frame of mind as this can have positive effects on the trip. Because of its unpredictability this mushroom is recommended only for advanced entheogen users, preferably with some experience with Psilocybe mushrooms.
Amanita muscaria effects can take up 5-10 hours and begins after half an hour to 2 hours after eating Amanitas. Many Amanita muscaria trip reports mention nausea and extreme sweating as initial effects but these soon lesson. Often one might fall asleep for a few hours with vivid dreams. After awakening the true visions really begin, you will probably feel very energetic and ecstatic.
